San Diego Junior Theatre Costume Loft

Hey, gang... The hour is upon us. We have wished upon a star and were given the phenomenal talents of Tammy Molenaar, our costume designer for Pinocchio. She has done an amazing job of readying us for dress rehearsal tonight! We have very few, if any, last minute projects that need to be completed. (Magical, I know. Blame the blue fairy, I guess.) At any rate, that doesn't mean that there isn't work up in the loft.

Our costume designer for Fame, Lynn Choplin, has gathered together a few projects for us to get started on immediately. So if you're hanging out and want to spend a little time up in the loft this week, come on up, and let's reach for the stars... You know, we're gonna sew forever. Baby, remember our name... Remember. Remember. Remember. (Sorry, musical moment.)

Our volunteer hours this week will be during dress rehearsals:

Monday, June 28: No hours due to 1st dress rehearsal
Tuesday, June 29 &
Wednesday, June 30: 4p - 7:30p
Thursday, July 1: 4p - 8:30p
Friday, July 2, Saturday, July 3, & Sunday, July 4: No hours due to production

Hey, gang! We finally have control of the theatre again...at least for the next few weeks! Today, we will be in the midst of Costume Parade, so we won't need any additional volunteers in the loft. However, the next few days will be very important. We do have quite a few alterations that need to be completed before our 1st Dress Rehearsal next Monday.

The loft will be open for volunteers Tuesday through Friday (6/22-25) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

We will probably be open for volunteers on either Saturday or Sunday, but not both. Check back here Friday evening for details on the weekend.

Here we are... another week in the Loft... only one week until Costume Parade for Pinnochio... We're in good shape, but now that we're completing fittings and have some alterations, we can definitely use your help. We're also continuing to work on purging the cage and building a phenomenal stock for our costume sale this October!

The Civic Dance Theatre is still in the loft, so we are still under restrictions; however, we will be open this week on Tuesday (6/15) and Friday (6/18) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. You will need to bring your phone so that you can call me from outside the loft doors so that I can escort you in. Thank you for your understanding, and we're looking forward to your company and your help!

Greetings, all! We're baaaaack! Thank you for your patience last week. We are back in the loft on a "careful" basis, making sure that we don't disturb the rehearsal/performance schedule for the Civic Dance Theatre.

This week, the loft will be open the following times:

Monday & Tuesday, 6/7 & 8 : CLOSED
Wed., Thurs., & Fri., 6/9, 10, & 11 : 4pm-6pm
Saturday & Sunday, 6/12 & 13 : CLOSED

Please note that if the dock doors are closed, you will need to call up to the costume loft at 619-239-1617 for me to come let you in. We are doing this to help keep the 100+ children that will be in the theatre with Civic safe. Thank you for your understanding and coorperation as we share the Prado space.

As far as what to expect this week, we are just starting to fit our actors, so we might have some small alterations (both machine and hand) available, but as we had two weeks ago, we are still working hard to get the loft cleaned and organized. We're even starting to pull costumes and accessories for the Costume Sale in October! Yay, us! So, come on in. We can use all of the hands that we can get.

We have some special circumstances in the costume loft regarding volunteer times for this production. Because of the number of students involved in Civic Youth Dance Theatre's spring recitals, they have asked us to modify our hours and procedures for volunteers in the loft to maintain a high level of security for their students. To this end, we ask that you respect their tech and production times, and we will do our best to keep you informed as to when the loft will be open for volunteers.

Unfortunately, for the week 5/30-6/6, the loft will not be open for volunteer access during the afternoon. If you wish to come in during morning hours (10-2), please contact walter@juniortheatre.com so that he can make sure that he is there and has work available for you. (We can ALWAYS use the help!)

Regarding the weeks following, we will be sending out an email shortly once we have confirmed our times with Civic. We will also be posted here on our costume blog.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation. Please, please, please don't let this discourage you from coming in and  helping though. We definitely need your help to get this show off the ground. We do, however, have to be a little more diligent in how we enter/exit the building. See you up the stairs!

While we have a "sort of" break as we wait for Pinnochio's work load to get organized, I--in my infinite wisdom--have decided to do a major shift in the way that the costumes are organized in the costume cage. I can use all hands on deck to help us do this as quickly as possible. We will be moving and shifting (or moving and shaking, if you wish) all this week (Tu-Fr) between 4-6, so come on up and offer your hands...and your feet...and a little bit of your brain...so that we can accomplish this and get back on the road to Disney magic.
